Earlier this March my baby girl turned 15 and with this came the opportunity to pierce her nose. Yes, I let my daughter pierce her nose. Honestly, I thought she’d outgrow this request but she was very adamant and continued to advocate for the piercing and ultimately I gave in. On our drive up I started to realize, like many mamas out there, that my baby is growing up. I could either stop her and resist this growth or I could just enjoy the journey. Guess which path works out better? In today’s episode, I am talking about accepting that our kids are going to grow up. I discuss how we as parents need to give them space and guidance as they test their boundaries, know that our job description changes as our kids change, and accept that our kids are going to make mistakes but we have to let them know we are going to be there for them no matter what. In this episode, we cover:
- Our kids are growing into their own skin [2:14]
- As parents, we need to give our kids grace and space [5:35]
- Kids are testing their boundaries, you have to guide them but allow them to also make their own choice [10:58]
- At the end of the day, kids are going to do what they want [16:06]
- The job description of mom changes as the kid changes kids [20:28]
- You have to adjust your parenting rules and have that ongoing discussion [29:25]
- We need to support our kids and know they are trying their best [34:04]
- Your kids are going to mess up and that’s okay [39:19]
