298. Making Decisions With, Not For, Your Kids
Today, I talk about the transformative impact of involving children in decision-making, emphasizing how it fosters connection, reduces resistance, and builds confidence. I share a personal story about my youngest child's request to be consulted on family plans, which led me to incorporate his input. I highlight developmental research showing that children as young as three can express preferences, nurturing their autonomy and emotional regulation. I suggest offering simple choices for younger kids and involving older children in more complex decisions. Ultimately, I stress the importance of making children feel valued and heard, which strengthens trust and emotional safety within the family.
