Maggie Owen: The Admissions Process, Post-secondary Routes and Finding Your Fit

An informative conversation about finding your best fit for post-secondary education and how to navigate the admissions process.

Maggie Owen is an academic advisor and Certified Canadian Counsellor with 15 years of experience at the secondary and post-secondary level. She has worked at LCC since 2016 and spent eight years prior to that working as an academic advisor, administrator and eventually as an academic dean at the CEGEP level. She also remains the QAIS representative for guidance counsellors and academic advisors related to Academic and Career Guidance Content (ACGC) objectives and spent five years as the Quebec representative of the Canadian Independent School Counselling (CISC) group. In this role she had the pleasure of working with counsellors on a national and provincial level. She conducted a national study on independent school counselling to determine current trends, needs and best practices across Canada and as a result organized and hosted two national presentations on healthy post-secondary admissions practices with the Stanford-affiliated non-profit, Challenge Success.

Maggie has also presented at several conferences including the Canadian Independent School Counselling bi-annual conference with Kimberly Tulloch and the National Association of College Admission counselling conference with St. Andrew’s University, Queen’s University Belfast, Oxford University and the Dalton School. Maggie’s background includes a double Bachelor’s degree in Theatre and German Literature from the University of New Hampshire, a Master’s degree in Creative Arts Therapies from Concordia University, Certifications in Psychometric Testing and a Master’s of Education in College Teaching from the University of Sherbrooke.

Maggie remains dedicated to the field of education, continuously striving to identify evidence-based practices and strategies that keep students engaged, inspired and motivated.
