I think about being single a lot. I constantly weigh the pros and cons of being in a relationship in a way I never even considered before. In retrospect it’s also made me question why I ever wanted to be married in the first place. Looking back, it never occurred to me that I could have a full life unless was half of a couple, half of a whole. That type of existence never seemed like a viable option. We live in a couple-oriented culture and I knew no different. Would I have chose differently if being single was modeled or accepted in society? Would you? My next guest has always been single, by choice, and when she was diagnosed with cancer and felt that the health care system tried to kill her because of her marital status she started to research and write about being single in a society that tells us being in a relationship is the only way to be truly fulfilled.
